about us
STEM Today is a platform dedicated to breaking down complex jargon and concepts in newly published research papers in order to promote curiosity in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between research and high school STEM education by simplifying research papers into engaging and comprehensive terms. Through our research synopses, digestible articles, translations, and free STEM tutoring, we strive to make complex STEM content accessible and insightful to all and instill a passion for learning and exploration in the future generation of teens.
our story
STEM Today was founded by high schooler Audrey Chan, where she hoped to build a diverse community of STEM enthusiasts from various backgrounds. Her first exposure to research began after watching a documentary on fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO), an intriguing procedure that involves placing a balloon inside a fetus' trachea to ensure normal lung development in the case of a diaphragm tear.

Since watching the documentary, Audrey found herself in a rabbit hole and has tried to explore the various factors that led to this fascinating medical breakthrough by delving into scientific literature. However, technical jargon and complex concepts made these papers difficult to grasp completely. Yet, as she gradually dissected each article, she began to gain a deeper understanding of them and wanted to share these discoveries with others.

That's when Audrey decided to start STEM Today, an international youth organization that seeks to build a bridge between high school academics to research by simplifying scientific literature into accessible terms through summaries, articles, videos, tutoring, chapter-led workshops, and translations. Through STEM Today, she hopes to share her love for STEM with other curious youth, who might be intimidated by technical jargon, but eager to explore the world of research.
